EXPO CHICAGO and Newcity present
EXHIBITION Weekend & the Spring Into the Art World Pass

Newcity and EXPO CHICAGO are teaming up to present an art-filled EXHIBITION Weekend, and would love to have you join us in visiting our local art galleries and museums, along with a selection of additional Spring Into the Art World special events for Friday, April 9th and Saturday, April 10th in Chicago.

We welcome the chance to start viewing art in person again and expect that for many of us, especially those who live in Chicago or in nearby states, April is a great time to start. All of our galleries and institutions are following strict guidelines for timed entry and are open to accommodating your visit. Check out the large selection of exhibitions open April 9 +10 on the EXHIBITION Weekend Exhibitions & Events page.

For visitors or Chicagoans looking for an art-filled staycation weekend, we have made arrangements for special deluxe packages with two leading hotels, the Peninsula Chicago and 21c Museum Hotel. For room rates and booking information please visit the EXHIBITION Weekend Partner Hotels page.

To provide an extra incentive to explore, we have created some very special limited-capacity private ticketed events for our patrons to engage with art and artists that weekend called the Spring Into the Art World pass

The price of the Spring Into the Art World pass is $195 per person or $295 for two people, and quantities are very limited. See the preliminary itinerary below.

Friday, April 9 | 6pm - 7pm
Opening private curator-led tour of  "This We Believe" exhibition at the new 21C Museum Hotel.

Enjoy a glass of wine while taking a look at the current exhibition at Chicago's 21C Museum Hotel. 21C Museum Hotels are a new group of hotels founded by Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, contemporary art collectors who've created the first multi-venue contemporary art museum/hotel.

Saturday, April 10 | 11am - 3pm (small groups on the hour)
Newcity Breakout Artist Exhibition with the Artists at Chicago Artists Coalition

Established in 2004, Newcity's annual Breakout Artists issue has become a leading indicator of future success in contemporary art. Of the 132 Breakout Artists before this year, forty-two now have gallery representation, ranging from Hauser & Wirth to numerous Chicago galleries; most of the others, including those who've chosen less commercial paths, show regularly at museums and institutions around the world. This year's list, which will be published in April, features nine artists, all of whom will be exhibiting works for sale, and will be on site to meet collectors, curators and art enthusiasts that day. This is a singular opportunity to connect with the future of art before the rest of the world.

Saturday, April 10 | 11am - 5pm
River North, West Loop and West Town Gallery Walks

When you're not at the Breakout Artist exhibition, make plans to visit Chicago's top galleries. We'll provide an up-to-date listing of open galleries and what they're showing. EXHIBITION Weekend Exhibitions & Events.

Saturday, April 10 | 5pm - 7pm
Closing cocktail reception and curator-led tour of "Hurvin Anderson: Anywhere but Nowhere" at the Arts Club of Chicago

See a new body of work by the acclaimed Turner-nominated painter in only his third solo exhibition in a twenty-five-year career and enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and a spectacular cocktail crafted by the Arts Club's Drawing Room Lounge.

Sunday, April 11
Visit Chicago's Art Museums on Your Own

Because we're limiting events to very small groups with private access, we're asking you to purchase a Spring Into the Art World pass to the weekend. This pass will give you exclusive access at all of the events, as well as other opportunities. We'll also include a voucher for a one-year subscription—or gift voucher—to the print edition of Newcity ($60 value) as well as two tickets to the next edition of EXPO CHICAGO, The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art ($60 value).
