Sacred Spaces in Downtown Chicago
Wednesday, November 25 at noon

Chicago’s skyscraper-studded downtown core is home to a surprising number of houses of worship, serving believers of multiple faiths and representing a wide variety of architectural styles. This daytime program reveals the architectural splendor, intricate details and religious symbolism of five sacred spaces in and around the Loop.

The Fields: Wrigley, Soldier and Guaranteed Rate
Wednesday, December 9 at noon

CAC docent council president Kent Foutty leads this virtual program highlighting three of Chicago’s most storied and recognizable arenas. One old, one new and one completely redesigned, these ballfields host games watched by millions worldwide, as well as the memories of generations of sports fans.

Chicago’s Holiday Traditions
Wednesday, December 23 at noon

Chicago has a habit of going “all in” for the holiday season. Join CAC docents Barbara Breakstone and Leslie Clark Lewis to hear the history behind these traditions, and learn how city landmarks get into the spirit, from display windows at Macy’s on State Street to the lions standing guard at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Giving Tuesday

SAVE THE DATE—DECEMBER 1—AND SUPPORT THE CAC THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

This year for the first time, CAC is participating in #GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. The extraordinary decline in tourism in 2020—necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19—continues to severely limit the CAC’s ability to earn revenue. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift to the CAC—whether today or on #GivingTuesday, December 1—to help us weather this crisis and reemerge at full capacity once it’s finally safe to do so.

PARTNER PROGRAM

Building Chicago’s Public Spaces with Julia Bachrach
Wednesday, December 2 at 6pm

The CAC is delighted to join forces with the Chicago Public Library Foundation for a special presentation led by historian and Chicago parks expert Julia Bachrach. Register today to learn more about public fieldhouses—an influential building type invented in Chicago—and the Palace of Fine Arts at the 1893 World’s Fair, better known today as the Museum of Science and Industry.

Walking tours

THESE BEAUTS WERE MADE FOR WALKING

If Paris is “a moveable feast,” Chicago is a visual one and, with each CAC walking tour temporarily limited to six attendees, they’ve never sold out faster. (For maximum flexibility, consider booking a private tour—discounted for CAC members—or a custom tour.) New to the schedule are Chicago Icons: Connecting Past and Present and the Illinois Center Pedway, while additional departures are now available for Aqua, Vista and Lakeshore East, Fulton-Randolph Market: From Gritty to Gourmet, Louis Sullivan and Lights, Camera, Architecture!
