Sad News >> Chicago Publishers Resource Center is closing

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this to say CHIPRC will be closing at the end of August. This year marks our 5th as an organization. We won’t be having a party, rather presenting our regular events over these next two months to allow you the chance to visit us one last time.

When I started the space in spring of 2013, I put it together from donated items, family and friend support, and my own resources and time. My idea was to highlight the work being done across communities, from self-publishers, zinesters, comics artists, writers, fine artists, graphic artists, academic students, continuing education seekers, filmmakers, musicians, and the occasional comedian, to show how we shared similar processes in creating our work and to show how intertwined our communities are. Over the last few years, the space has grown in ways I would never have imaged in realizing that vision.

I want to thank all those who have supported the space. If you attended a workshop or public event; if you created or printed work; if you hosted or planned an event; if you donated time, funding, or supplies; if you cared about what we did and the communities we were a part of: THANK YOU.

To help defer any debt and pay current bills, we’ll be announcing programming to close out the summer. If you are interested in printing (on our Riso or copier) we’ll have limited Sunday Open Hours remaining. And if you want to take any programming, attend any event, or simply drop by, check our web calendar and hit us up.

Many thanks for the past 5 years. I had a quite the time supporting our community and am proud to have hosted some really cool people and programs. Hope you all had a good time at CHIPRC too.

Best,
John Wawrzaszek
