2018 Legendary Landmarks Celebration 
Next week, Landmarks Illinois hosts its biggest event of the year! The 2018 Legendary Landmarks Celebration will be an inspiring evening of festivities, networking and tributes to our city's Legendary Landmarks!
The 2018 Legendary Landmarks Honorees are:

  • Daniel LevinFounder and Chairman of The Habitat Company
  • Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board President
  • Berglund Construction, Corporate Landmark, with honor being accepted by third-generation owner Fred Berglund

Where: Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave. 

When: 5:30 p.m. - Cocktail Reception, 7:00 p.m. - Award Program & Dinner, 8:45 p.m. - Dessert Reception

Preservation Snapshots Lecture:
"South Side Community Art Center: Past, Present and Future"

Landmarks Illinois kicks off its Spring Preservation Snapshots Lecture series with a discussion on the South Side Community Art Center, which has been an important incubator for the development, endorsement and support of the work of Chicago's African American artists since it opened in 1940. 

Maséqua Myers, SSCAC Executive Director, will discuss the past, present and future of the South Side Community Art Center - its historic building and its human story.

Where: The Auditorium Building, Roosevelt University's Congress Lounge, 430 S. Michigan Avenue, 2nd Floor, Chicago

When: March 15, 2018, 12:15 p.m. - 1 p.m.

Keith Haring_ The Chicago Mural

Having rocketed to worldwide fame in the 1980s, artist Keith Haring worked with 500 Chicago Public School students to paint a monumental mural in Chicago's Grant Park in 1989. This exhibition includes 36 panels of the original mural reflecting the artist's incisive draftsmanship and symbolic characters (radiant baby, barking dog), as well as a collection of photographs, correspondence, designs, plans, t-shirt drawings and much more. With its engaging music and dance performances in a kid-friendly setting, Juicebox programs are geared toward the stroller set and enjoyable for the whole family. Art on theMart Art on theMart
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and DCASE recently proposed "Art on theMART," a new permanent large-scale lighting installation across nearly three acres of the river-facing façade of theMART (formerly the Merchandise Mart). The project, privately funded by Vornado Realty Trust, is slated for a fall 2018 completion. "Iconic art and cultural programming on the Riverwalk has always been inherent and integral in helping us embrace the river as the city's newest recreational frontier," said Mayor Emanuel. "Art on theMART will be a visionary project that brings new energy to the Riverwalk, while strengthening Chicago's legacy of public art."
Mavis Staples Mavis Staples Headlines the 35th Annual Chicago Blues Festival
DCASE is excited to announce that Mavis Staples will headline the 35th Annual Chicago Blues Festival this June 8-10 in Millennium Park. Other headliners performing at the park's Jay Pritzker Pavilion over the three days will include Corey Dennison Band; Mississippi Heat with Billy Flynn and Giles Corey; Special Tribute to Bob Koester and the 65th Anniversary of Delmark Records; Selwyn Birchwood; Willie Clayton; Little Walter Tribute; Fantastic Negrito, Kenny Neal and Mavis Staples. The full schedule will be announced later this spring.

Chicago is the birthplace of the urban blues, gospel music, house music and more. In 2018 over three consecutive weekends, DCASE will celebrate the city's music legacy at the Chicago House Music Festival (May 26), the Chicago Gospel Music Festival (June 1-2) and the Chicago Blues Festival (June 8-10) on stage in Millennium Park, at the Chicago Cultural Center as well as in music venues and clubs throughout the city. Chicago is an arts powerhouse and a global destination for music lovers.

Music Teachers of Hyde Park is an alliance of independent private music teachers serving Chicago's Hyde Park, Kenwood, and South Shore neighborhoods.The Artist Series is presented by the artist members of Music Teachers of Hyde Park.

This program is presented as part of the 2017-2018 One Book, One Chicago season, exploring the theme "Music: The Beat of Our City" through Greg Kot's book I'll Take You There.
