Cesar Maldonado, President of the Mariachi Heritage Foundation invites you to this one-night only experience!
GRAMMY® AWARD WINNER LILA DOWNS RETURNS TO CHICAGO’S AUDITORIUM THEATRE FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY: THIS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH

GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® winner Lila Downs returns to Chicago’s majestic Auditorium Theatre with special guest, Chicago’s very own Latin GRAMMY® nominee, Mariachi Herencia de México, for a one-night-only performance on Friday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets ($40–$103) are available online at AuditoriumTheatre.org, by calling (312) 341-2300 or in-person at the Auditorium’s Box Office (50 Ida B. Wells Dr).

Lila is renowned for crafting albums and delivering vocal performances that are inspired by Mexico’s pre-Columbian indigenous culture. Her most recent album, "Salón, Lágrimas y Deseo" fuses such genres as blues, cumbia, danzón, banda and Cuban son with torch ballads that perfectly suit Lila’s unmistakable, expressive contralto voice. The album consists of six original songs and seven reinterpretations of classics by such legendary composers as Agustín Lara, José Alfredo Jiménez and Álvaro Carrillo. Lila is also joined by some of Latin music’s most critically acclaimed talents, as she duets with Mon Laferte, Carla Morrison, Diego El Cigala and Andrés Calamaro.

The performance also features Latin GRAMMY® nominee, Mariachi Herencia de México, the chart-busting student group from Chicago’s immigrant barrios. Considered mariachi music’s most exciting new group, Mariachi Herencia de México started out in 2014 as a music program for students enrolled in Chicago Public Schools, the third largest district in the nation. It has become successful far beyond anything anyone envisioned.

Released in 2017, their debut album “Nuestra Herencia (Our Heritage)” received a Latin GRAMMY® nomination in the “Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album” category, attracted local and national news coverage, and created new demand for appearances around the United States and Mexico.

Their follow-up album, “Herencia De La Tierra Mía (The Heritage Of My Land),” was released earlier this year and features guest vocals by two superstars of Mexican music, folkloric/fusion artist Lila Downs and veteran mariachi singer Aida Cuevas. “Herencia de la Tierra Mía” made stunning debuts on both the Billboard and iTunes charts. The CD debuted #2 on the Billboard Latin chart and #1 on the iTunes Latin chart.
