This third program in the Channel Silver Eye microcinema screening series features a selection of contemporary videos that explore themes of representation and artifice in the mediated experience. These works have a particular eye and ear tuned toward the inherent tensions that arise through attempts to capture reality, reveal the behind-the-scenes chicanery of “live television,” navigate the vast media landscape as it converges with memory in the creation of a fictional film, and engage the formally rigorous tableaus designed in collaboration with their subjects--members of the the much-maligned Juggalo subculture. The program includes Nathan Truesdell’s Balloonfest, Benjamin and Stefan Ramirez Perez’s CONFLUENCE, Indefinite Pitch by James N. Kienitz Wilkins, and Scott Cummings’s Buffalo Juggalos.
This event is curated by Ross Nugent, a filmmaker and the Assistant Professor of Communication of Thiel College, who will introduce the program and lead a post-screening discussion.
