"Chicago Detours Announces Summer 2017 Tour Calendar"
Creative tour company continues to blaze new trails for Chicago tourism
Chicago Detours, a five-star-rated tour company, is pleased to announce that its summer season of architectural and historical tours in downtown and the city's vibrant neighborhoods will launch on May 13th. With a bevy of professional and highly-educated tour guides, the company looks forward to daily tours, a special "Detour" event, and the limited debut of a new tour in Pilsen.
For nearly seven years, Chicago Detours has made its name with walking tours of downtown Chicago's interiors, historic drinking establishments, underground tunnels, and other famous and unexpected locations. Summer schedule of tours daily include the Loop Interior Architecture Walking Tour with Pedway, Historic Chicago Walking Bar Tour, 1893 World's Fair Tour with Bars, Best Architecture Walking Tour Since Sliced Bread, and Old Polonia and Wicker Park Food Tour. One-off tours this summer include the Changes and Spaces in Pilsen Food Tour on May 20th and 27th, and the annual Chicago Jazz, Blues, and Beyond Bus Tour on June 10th.
These are not your grandma’s architecture tours! Led by passionate, expert guides, tours with Chicago Detours include an interactive dynamic, presentation of historic photos and videos, and gifts of artistically-composed photographic postcards.
The Loop Interior Architecture Walking Tour with Pedway delves into surprising spots like a church in a skyscraper and the underground Pedway tunnels. This 2-hour tour will run seven days a week during the summer. Sundays at 1:30pm, Mondays at 11am, Tuesdays at 10:30am, Wednesdays at 3pm, Thursdays at 10am, Fridays at 3pm, and twice on Saturdays, at 11am and 1:30pm.
The wildly popular Historic Chicago Walking Bar Tour hits historic watering holes and stunning architectural marvels along the Magnificent Mile, while guests enjoy drinks and snacks. For those looking for something unique on a Monday night, this is it! Mondays are new to the schedule. The 2.5 hour tour is also offered on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and always starts at 5:45pm.
Locals and visitors alike thrill to the 1893 World's Fair Tour with Bars. This walking tour explores the most famous event in Chicago's storied history, with stops at amazing Gilded Age buildings and century-old establishments. The 3-hour tour will run Wednesday at 5:45pm, Friday at 1pm, and Saturday at 4:30pm.
For those who'd like to get a grasp on Chicago's architectural history in one quick blast, the 90-minute-long Best Architecture Walking Tour Since Sliced Bread will return this summer. This creative outing compares architectural styles to other elements of design, art history, and popular culture. This tour runs Sunday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30am.
Outside of downtown, the Old Polonia and Wicker Park Food Tour will return for its second year of exploring the social and gastronomical evolution of the old "Polish Downtown" over the past few decades. The 2.5-hour tour will run every Wednesday at 11am, Friday at 2pm, and on the second Sunday of each month at 2pm.
Chicago Detours also has two special "Detour" events planned for May and June. These events are semi-annual one-off tours offered as a special treat for local fans and intrigued visitors.
- The first Detour is the new Changes and Spaces in Pilsen Food Tour. Built through months of research and planning by our Founder and Executive Director, Amanda Scotese, this tour will traverse the heart of Mexican Chicago while exploring ideas of gentrification, community, public art, and, of course, delicious food. The 3-hour tour is planned to run only twice, on Saturdays May 20th and 27th at 2pm.
- Chicago Detours will once again offer its Chicago Jazz, Blues, and Beyond Bus Tour as a special Detour event during the Chicago Blues Festival. This tour, which is normally offered only to private groups, is opened to the public once a year, so that music fans can travel to historic music meccas on the North and South Sides of the city. The tour ends with guests receiving a harmonica lesson from a live blues musician on the bus. The 2.5-hour tour will run on Saturday, June 10th at 10:30am.
Tours start and end at various locations. Advance reservations are required and can be made on the Chicago Detours website. Tours have limited availability and often sell out.
