We are proud to announce that for the 50th anniversary of the Rainbow loafer, Savoir Studio has been commissioned by Mephisto to redesign their most iconic style which is launching Fall 2016. Michel Abraharm and Savoir Studios was selected and awarded by Bright Tradeshow, the most fashion forward trade show of Berlin Fashion week.The new model has been launched for Fall 2016 and is being reissued in 2017 and 2018. The Mephisto company has a large number of in-house designers, and the company needed to collaborate with an external design studio, not only to bring a more contemporary approach to the table, but also to be able to “break the rules”. The model the requested for re-design is an icon in their corporate culture, and Savoir Studios was able to make it look seamless and internal. They needed a competent team of designers that would upgrade the model just enough to make it more relevant, without changing it too much, and losing the DNA of the brand. This was successfully achieved by consultant and designer Michel Abraham.
Re-designing a classic shoe like the Rainbow is a great challenge. The design team at Savoir Studio had to first carefully identify the characteristics of the shoe, in term of fabrication, construction and proportions. The goal was to give it a more contemporary feel, without compromising its uniqueness. The comfort of a walking shoe like the Rainbow makes it an ideal companion for today’s big city lifestyle. Replacing the heavy rubber sole with an ethylene vinyl acetate sports sole, Savoir Studio gave the classic silhouette a more athletic/chic and younger feel. Experimenting with both materials and textures, the Savoir Studio team combined elements from the outdoor technical world with fashion forward colors and patterns, pushing the new Rainbow into the 21st century. For the womens’ collection, Savoir Studio accentuated the classic European luxury elements and fast paced big city toughness to create a fresh new look. Animal prints and hip patterns collide with rich vachette leather trimmed with glitter and metallic gold. The Studio gaves this Mephisto classic women’s shoe a dynamic and on-trend twist. In addition to the Rainbow shoe and the women’s styles, the Savoir Studio team also designs original footwear styles for their Mephisto’s outdoors/sportswear brand, Allrounder. These projects are part of an on-going collaboration between the Company Mephisto and Savoir Studio.
