In line with Chicago Detours' creative angle on tours, this local business will offer limited December dates for "A Holiday Tour of Drinks, Daleys and Dead Guys," an atypical holiday walking tour.

This downtown walking tour, which stays indoors for much of its run, includes both classic and off-the-beaten path sites and stories. For example, guests will discover how Mayor Richard J. Daley saved the Christmas Parade, and then how his son, Richard M., was almost given a stocking of coal for his affront to Christmas and Hanukkah.
Unlike the myriad other holiday lights tours offered by other companies, stories like those about the Mayors Daley will help guests dig in to Chicago's history of holiday fun and follies.

The tour will be guided by Amanda Scotese, the Founder and Executive Director of Chicago Detours. She'll provide an
overview on the development of consumerism at Christmastime and will share the story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’s birth in Chicago (as well as the scientific research given to quantify the efficacy of his lit nose!)

Tour guests will get a hot Tom and Jerry cocktail at historic and homey Miller's Pub. For the second drink, guests will gaze at the holiday tree at the former Marshall Field's Department store while sipping on their choice of a glass of wine or a beer from the local Revolution Brewing.

Other fun highlights include the Wabash Lights art installation, the Chicago Christmas Tree in Millennium Park, and the Chicago Theatre with its famous marquee. The tour ends at Christkindlmarket, where the tour guide will share the secret of what's really in the gluhwein, the spiced wine they serve in special mugs at this traditional German holiday market in Daley Plaza.

A Holiday Tour of Drinks, Daleys and Dead Guys will run on the following dates and times:
Saturday, December 17th at 1:30pm - available
Friday, December 23rd at 2:00pm - available
Saturday, Dec. 24 2:00pm - SOLD OUT
Thursday, December 29th at 5:45pm - available
Friday, December 30th at 2:00pm - available

Tickets are $30 and include expert tour guide commentary, printed Pedway map and candy gift. Guests bring $21 cash to cover the drink package and bartender gratuities for a Tom and Jerry cocktail, and then their choice of beer or wine. The tour starts inside GePaDe Caffe, 60 E. Adams St, and ends at Daley Plaza.
Online registration is required. Groups are limited to 14 guests and tours will likely sell out.

A Holiday Tour of Drinks, Daleys and Dead Guys will be just one of a few tour possibilities for families and friends during the holiday season. Other public tours stay mostly indoors as well: Loop Interior Architecture Walking TourHistoric Chicago Walking Bar Tour, and 1893 World's Fair Tour with Bars and Food

Gift cards are also available for public tours.

Chicago Detours offers guided tours of the city's architecture, history and culture that bring people to explore stories and places locals don't even know.
