2016 CHICAGO TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE SHOW RETURNS WITH A HOST OF NEW EXHIBITORS, FASCINATING FIRST-TIME SPEAKERS
Colleen Kelly, Host of PBS Series “Family Travel,” Discount Expert Johnny Jet Join Rick Steves, Pauline Frommer and Peter Greenberg as Keynote Speakers
The 2016 Chicago Travel & Adventure Show, returning to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (5555 N. River Rd, Rosemont, IL) January 23 – 24,
is the ideal destination for anyone seeking their next vacation, be it a
sun-drenched visit to explore Arizona’s natural wonders, a relaxing
cruise in the Caribbean, a motorcycle trip through Portugal or a trek up
the Himalayas. With a line-up of stellar expert speakers, many
presenting for the first time, as well as more than 350 exhibitors, the
2016 show will be the biggest and most wide-ranging ever.
“Our show guests are really in for a treat this year as we’ve expanded the expo in all areas,” says Travel and Adventure Show CEO John Golicz,
who also serves as executive editor of the popular travel website
1000TravelTips.com. “Visitors will leave the show with the insights and
travel planning tools they just can’t find anywhere else.”
The show’s Official Travel Agency Partner, AAA, continues to support
the show’s commitment to providing a one-stop destination for all things
travel. This year, AAA has increased their participation with more
travel booths and expanded programming. First time AAA booths include Disney Destinations, Holland America and Rocky Mountaineers.
“AAA has expanded its participation in the Travel & Adventure Show
for 2016 with more of our world-class partners participating in our
exhibit area as well as an enhanced show special offer for attendees
with direct booking opportunities right at the show," said Mark Jenkins,
spokesman, AAA Travel. "In addition, we will again be sponsoring the
Destination Theater throughout the weekend with many of our partners
presenting throughout the show. All attendees who stop by the AAA booth
will have the chance to enter and win an European River Cruise for two
from Uniworld Boutique River Cruise.”
Others making their debut at the 2016 show are Portugal Motorcycle Tours, which invites guests to climb aboard a Harley Davidson and journey to the remotest regions of southwestern Europe; Down Under Endeavors, which organizes tours of the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian Outback, as well as New Zealand, Tahiti and Fiji; Pamir Expedition, which transports adventure seekers to the Silk Road regions of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan; and Skorpios Cruises,
which invites guests to explore the San Rafael Glacier and the
Southern Ice Field. Those seeking luxurious lounging can browse the
offerings of Wyndham Vacation Resorts, while anyone hoping to leave cold temperatures behind should head for the Arizona Office of Tourism
booth. Fans of the one-tank road trip will find insider information
aplenty when they chat with the experts from first-time exhibitors Silver Lake Sand Dunes and the Door County Visitors Bureau.
Tips and Inspirations from Experts
“We have a great line-up of new speakers for 2016,” added Golicz.
“It’s always informative and interesting to hear from established
authorities like Rick Steves, Peter Greenberg and Pauline Frommer. But
this year we have added experts who are going to provide yet another
dimension of travel knowledge for our guests with their exciting
insights and inspiring stories.”
First-time speakers this year include Allan Karl, who
sold virtually everything he owned and boarded a BMW F650GS Dakar to
crisscross North and South America before journeying through Africa,
Europe and Asia; Johnny Jet, a budget travel expert who annually visits approximately 20 countries each year; and Jeff Greif,
aka the Travel Squire, who has chronicled his personal adventures for
GQ, Vogue, The New Yorker, George and Conde Nast Traveler before
founding his own web magazine.
One of television’s most popular travel personalities, Rick Steves,
will address audiences three times during the weekend, offering his
unparalleled insights on how travelers can obtain the maximum travel
thrills for every mile, minute, and euro on their next European
adventure. Family travel expert Colleen Kelly offers advice on ideal destinations that families can enjoy as a group, while CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg will offer his insights on the latest developments with airlines, airports, hotels, cruise ships and trains. Pauline Frommer,
Editorial Director of the Frommer Guides, will draw upon her family’s
encyclopedic knowledge to counsel show attendees on what they need to
know before planning their next vacation.
Exotic Cuisine, Cultural Performances and Family Fare
Foodies will want to stop at the Taste of Travel Theater, where noted chefs including Chef Matt McMillin of Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants, Indian chef Raghavan Iyer and three chefs based in Maui – Jojo Vasquez, Kyle Kawakami and Mike Lofaro and many others will offer cooking demonstrations and delectable samples of global cuisine. Additional stages include: the Destination Theater, where attendees can attend workshops to gain insight and in-depth information about specific destinations and the Global Beats Theater,
where performers invite visitors to enjoy authentic world music and
folkloric dance presentations during more than 20 performances
