we are excited to welcome the new year with an introduction to
three emerging artists we have invited to join our growing family at
Hilton Asmus Contemporary.
GAIL MANCUSO: Photographs focusing on
architecture and design, nature and human forms in an ultra dimensional
format. Mancuso's wide range of techniques culminates in a composition
that is abstract, yet all at once recognizable. Streets, buildings,
random people on the street. The technical aspects of her photography
are infused with a heightened sense of composition. Unlike
other photographers who control and pose their subjects, Mancuso finds a
natural focus to create her layered abstracts that envelop a room with
restraint. Each is a highly dimensional character, infused with a
blending of multiple images. The artist recently completed a 7 x 25 foot
photomontage of over 420 photographs of Chicago for a new restaurant
opening on Michigan Avenue in January. An announcement will be
MANOLIS TZORZAKAKIS: Transplanted to Chicago from Athens, Greece, Manolis states, "Painting
is the search for light, a way to communicate with chaos and a
permanent battle to define yourself. My interest is not depicting an
accurate image of the natural pattern, an artificial reproduction, but I
attempt, by removing individual and temporal features, to convey a
direct "view" of the sense or essence of the world." His works are
contemplative studies in color and space.
D.E. SODERSTROM: A
native of Elgin, Illinois, Swedish/Irish photographer D.E. Soderstrom
has journeyed from studio to freelance over the last 35 years. He is
noted for his painterly depictions of the Midwestern forests, lakes and
