A People's History Project and the Arts Day of Giving
Thursday, October 2, 2014, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
a part of a collective photo album for the people of the city of
Pittsburgh. Fueled by those who still live here, or those in the
"Pittsburgh Nation," A People's History of Pittsburgh
compiles family-owned, found, and anonymous photographs and stories from
the city's residents to create an online archive that unearths and
reconstructs narratives through the lives of Pittsburghers.
Join us on Thursday, October 2 for a talk, held in conjunction with the Arts Day of Giving, with the Hillman Photography Initiative's artists-in-residence Melissa Catanese and Ed Panar,
as they discuss the People's History Project and a new publication of
select images from the project slated for release in 2015.
warm up the scanners for you, so bring your photos from the days of
Pittsburgh's past, and upload them for inclusion in the project.
will also be available at this exciting event for visitors to make
their tax-deductible, partially-matched donations to Silver Eye Center
for Photography as part of the Arts Day of Giving, sponsored by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and The Pittsburgh Foundation!

a brand new way for the Silver Eye community to share their work and
discover photography. From September 30th to October 10th, we invite
anyone making photographs to stop by the gallery and share one or two
prints for display. Real live physical prints, on paper with silver, or
ink. The kind you can hold with your hands, no frames, no glass, just
photos. You can share new projects, old prints, pretty photos, and weird
pictures, we want them on our walls for everyone to see. The gallery
will be open for visitors to see the prints as they go on the wall.
Everything will culminate in a Crowdsource Print Party on Friday, October 10th from 7:00 - 10:00 pm.
