It’s Here….Non-Toxic, Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent that WORKS!!
How Clean is Your Laundry Detergent?
some “Green” detergents aren’t free of toxins—Green Virgin Products
Offers Non-Toxic, Natural Alternative that Safely Cleans
FL – July 31, 2014 – Many consumer branded laundry detergents contain
toxic ingredients. Whether it’s Diethanolamine, Quaternium-15, Sodium
Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or some other chemical, it’s a good idea to
understand the harmful potential that ingredients such as these can pose
to you and your family.
But what about potentially harmful
ingredients NOT shown on the label? Particularly Dioxane (1,4-dioxane).
“The Organic Consumers Association explains that 1,4-Dioxane is a
by-product of the process called ethoxylation, a cheap shortcut process
many companies use to provide mildness (in other words, reduce risk of
skin irritation) to harsh cleaning ingredients. This process requires
the use of the cancer-causing petrochemical ethylene oxide, which
generates 1,4-Dioxane as a by-product.”
Many top laundry detergent brands contain this synthetic petrochemical which the Environmental Protection Agency considers a probable carcinogen
This is a by-product contaminant of the manufacturing process and is not required to be listed on product labels.
There have been some successful movements to have this toxic by-product removed from consumer brands. Most recently, the Women’s Voices for the Earth
has been successful in influencing the makers of Tide to reduce the
amount of 1,4 Dioxane in their laundry detergent, although not
completely eliminated. Says Erin Switalski, executive director of
Women’s Voices for the Earth: “We don’t fully understand how much 1,4
dioxane is needed to give someone cancer. For us, the bottom line is
that Tide and Tide Free and Gentle are contaminated products.
are safer alternatives in the market place that work just as well as
major consumer brands. One new product to consider is Green Virgin’s
Soap Nuts Liquid, which not only contains natural, non-toxic
ingredients; but does not contain even a trace of 1,4 Dioxane!
Marion, Founder of Green Virgin Products notes that “Soap Nuts Liquid
is made with our USDA Certified Organic Sapindus Mukorossi Soap Nuts
(a berry that grows on the Chinese Soap Berry Tree and has the highest
saponin(surfactant) content of any plant). We extract the saponin using
only water. We then remove all the solids and tannins and deodorize it.
This is all done using high tech filters using no chemicals only water.
This is an important step and one that most of our competitors are not
“Because this is the extract of a fruit,” Ken went
on to explain, “it has a short shelf life of about two weeks. Therefore,
a preservative is needed. Preservatives can be toxic, which is why we
were hesitant to sell a soap nuts liquid because of our commitment to
only selling totally non-toxic products. We finally found a pair of
non-toxic preservatives that when combined, make a non-toxic and
extremely effective preservative (caprylyl glycol and phenethyl
alcohol). These are rated a 0 and a 1 on the Skin Deep Data Base--which
is about as non-toxic as you can get! Our liquid has at least a two
year shelf life and costs well below the leading brands in terms of cost
per laundry load.”
as a way to make a positive impact on the planet. In addition to the
non-toxic, safe attributes of this product, it also has a negative
carbon footprint. This is one environmentally responsible product that
actually works. Just one 8 oz. bottle of Green Virgin Products’ Soap
Nuts Liquid does 120 loads of laundry.
