David Oresick Selected to Lead Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh, PA
The Board of Directors of Silver Eye Center for Photography voted to select David Oresick as the next Executive Director of the 35 year-old organization, located on East Carson Street in Pittsburgh's South Side. Oresick was the Lab Manager of the internationally recognized Light Work in Syracuse, New York before joining Silver Eye.

"We are thrilled to be bringing David back to Pittsburgh, his hometown. His significant knowledge of the field of photography, coupled with his love of our great city, will be assets to Silver Eye. We are incredibly lucky to have found a new Executive Director with David's enthusiasm and talent," says Brian Lang, Silver Eye's Board President.

Oresick is deeply engaged in photography as an artist, curator, and adjunct professor. After growing up in Pittsburgh, he received a BFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology and a MFA from Columbia College Chicago. His curatorial work includes serving on the selection committee for Light Work's artist-in-residence program and founding the experimental film and video series Video Playlist at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Photography, where he programmed several screenings including "Heartaches & Holy Rites" and "Intimate Civics & Everyday Explorers."

"I am incredibly excited to be leading Silver Eye and I feel lucky that following my passion for art and photography has drawn me back home to the city I love," says Oresick. "I hope to build on Silver Eye's strong history of supporting artists, creating nationally recognized exhibitions, and building partnerships in the region. Regionally and nationally there is great potential to bring fine art photography to Pittsburgh and to bring the artists of Pittsburgh to the world."

Oresick will begin his position at Silver Eye in late-July, 2014. One of his first tasks is to select the juror for its Fellowship exhibition, one of the most anticipated photography exhibitions in the region. The juror reviews hundreds of portfolios submitted by photographers from around the world and selects two artists to receive solo exhibitions at the gallery to open in January 2015. Oresick will also develop exhibitions for the 2015-2016 Silver Eye program as well as educational programs and collaborations with other organizations.

About Silver Eye Center for Photography

Silver Eye Center for Photography is the only organization in Western Pennsylvania dedicated solely to the understanding, appreciation, education, and promotion of photography as an art form and as an expressive form of visual communication. Exhibitions are enriched with lectures, panel discussions, workshops, portfolio reviews, interactive gallery tours, video screenings, and more. Silver Eye began in 1979 as two separate organizations: Blatant Image Gallery, a cooperative gallery designed to provide exhibition space to local fine art photographers, and The Silver Eye Photographic Workshop, which brought nationally known photographers to Pittsburgh to exhibit their work and to conduct workshops. These two organizations merged in 1985 and became Blatant Image/Silver Eye, which later changed to Silver Eye Center for Photography in 1992.
