The Chicago Music Scene: 1960s and 1970s-Dean Milano's got it covered!

Dean Milano has been making music in Chicago since 1966, playing bass and singing in numerous bands and shows. He was there when it all happened-and has lived to tell about it.
The author takes it's viewers on a journey to a time before deejays, lip synching, and karaoke to a time when music was real and created by real musicians!

Arcadia Publishing has recently published his book, "The Chicago Music Scene: 1960s and 1970s"
This is the story of two decades of the Chicago music scene-the 1960s and 1970s, an incredibly vibrant period in urban and suburban music scenes across the country and throughout the world. Chicago was a major player throughout those decades. It was a time when jazz, rock and roll, country and western, folk, blues, and R & B flowed through the streets of Chicagoland. Much has been written about the national and international talent of that time, but not enough has been written regarding local music scenes. This story focuses on the city of Chicago (along with its suburban club scene) and the homegrown performers who made the 1960s and 1970s one of the most electrifying and memorable periods in music history. Some of those players went all the way to the big time, while others made their mark and disappeared. But they all made a difference in their own way, and for those who were there, it is a time they will never forget.

The book is done in an interesting fashion. Vintage black and white photos, many from private collections that have not been seen before add to the stories that numerous musicians provided with their personal stories and bits of info not even their fans know.

Thru the pages,I was constantly surprised at how many of these wonderful performers I've met thru my work as a photojournalist.
Rokko and The Hat was a popular local band that happened to be one of my first photo assignments with the 'Metro Entertainment Calendar" in about 1978 and are noted here.

I've never seen the early photo of the Buckinghams that is in the book with Dennis Tufano under the drum. Great composition on this photo!

The author mentions that the artists covered in the book is only a small sampling of what was happening at the time and his intent was to give a good representation of that era.To have included everyone would have taken years of research.
Perhaps with the success of this excellent compilation,he will consider!

Be sure to check out Dean Milano's site on the book! He will be doing concerts and signing parties featuring many of the bands in the book.

Dennis is a partner in this project! I've been in the entertainment media for most of my adult life and I believe it's the right thing to do(and the legal thing to do too!) is to make sure that artists I would sell prints of receive an equal share of all sales. Performers need to eat too ;-)
