In American on Purpose, Craig Ferguson delivers a moving and achingly funny memoir of living the American dream as he journeys from the mean streets of Glasgow, Scotland, to the comedic promised land of Hollywood. Along the way he stumbles through several attempts to make his mark—as a punk rock musician, a construction worker, a bouncer, and, tragically, a modern dancer.
To numb the pain of failure, Ferguson found comfort in drugs and alcohol, addictions that eventually led to an aborted suicide attempt. (He forgot to do it when someone offered him a glass of sherry.) But his story has a happy ending: in 1993, the washed-up Ferguson washed up in the United States . Finally sober, Ferguson landed a breakthrough part on the hit sitcom The Drew Carey Show, a success that eventually led to his role as the host of CBS's The Late Late Show. By far Ferguson 's greatest triumph was his decision to become a U.S. citizen, a milestone he achieved in early 2008, just before his command performance for the president at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. In American on Purpose, Craig Ferguson talks a red, white, and blue streak about everything our Founding Fathers feared.
His booksigning was at Borders Books on Michigan Avenue

LOCAL KIDS PUBLISH COOKBOOK TO FEED HUNGRY
The Kids Feeding Kids Club, founded by 5-year-old Carson Pazdan, is releasing it’s first cookbook, entitled, “Kids Feeding Kids Cookbook” which was the idea of it’s founder. This cookbook is a collection of 800 recipes created by kids for kids and features photos by noted professional cookbook photographer Ally Gruener. Through an extensive grass-roots effort, hundreds of children got on board to help the hungry by submitting recipes, as well as several celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, Chris O’Donnell and Sean Hayes. “Just getting that amount of people behind this….it’s a very inspirational story to be a part of” says Jarrod Daab, Associate Director of the Northern Illinois Food Bank. With the sale of each cookbook (priced at $20), 100% of the profits will be donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Youth Nutrition Program. The NIFB helps more than 50,000 hungry people in 13 area counties every week. Each book sold will provide a hungry child in Northern Illinois with nearly 100 pounds of food.
ABOUT THE KIDS FEEDING KIDS CLUB -- The Kids Feeding Kids Club was founded in 2008 by 5-year-old Carson Pazdan. Inspired by his love to cook and experiment in the kitchen, Carson wanted to create his own cookbook featuring all of his recipes as well as those from other children. He dreamed of a cookbook designed by kids for kids. This idea evolved into a vision of creating a club for kids where they can directly impact the lives of other children and help stop hunger. The organization’s mission is to feed hungry youth through fundraising and volunteering, building awareness, compassion and a foundation of philanthropy that will last a lifetime. It is the organization’s belief that the earlier children are introduced to community service, volunteerism and charity work, the more likely they are to stay engaged in these activities into adulthood thus making the world a better place.
