The Chicago Flower & Garden Show held a special preview of the show to benefit cultural institutions and green organizations.
Event co-chairs included Aetna Inc. VP of external affairs Martin R. Castro, NBC5 anchor/reporter Anna Davlantes,socialite/fundraiser Donna La Pietra accompanied by Bill Kurtis and nightlife impresario Billy Dec who had a major party at The Underground last night that included Nick Cannon spinning and Busta Rhymes performing.
This is an amazing event. If your looking for any signs of spring, they've captured it here and spread it out over a good portion at the indoor far end of Navy Pier. The above display caught my eye,"Flower Bed",literally ! Nancy Block created this masterpiece of a 'flower bed' that consists of more than 1600 fresh flowers. The tiny dog in the front is made from terra cotta planters and string. The signage(not pictured) says,"Victorian Vogue
The garden is to honor Victorian women for their beauty and strength. Because of them we are the strong women of today. The patchwork quilts the women made out of old clothes. The old teddy bear sitting on the willow rocking chair is the memory of her grown children. Her homemade soap awaots her every morning by the wash basin and a pitcher of water. Her loyal little four legged companion sleeps nearby in her room. Her dresses hang with pride. You can see her love, compassion, her warmth.
Collaborators: District 8 Garden Clubs of Illinois."
The show opened to the public on March 7th and runs thru March 15,2009 at Navy Pier.
