Melvin B's on State-closes down after 18 years

Melvin B's on State and Cedar. Closed. Forever.Eventually to be replaced by a hotel.

I happened to be in the neighborhood the day they were deconstructing the inside and outside of Melvin B's in the Rush Street area and putting all the boxed liquor in a U-Haul truck.

I'm sure the local highrise neighbors are thrilled with the closing and are celebrating one less loud bar in the area. But to the regulars, this place was..nirvana.

I guess you have to be 20 something or pretty shit faced to stumble in there. But it kept alot of people mighty happy for a very long time. Home is where the 'shower' is for some..

And here is something 99.9% of the Chicago population might not know.. Robert Vaughn, the star from the 1960s show,'Man From Uncle' stayed upstairs at the Hotel Cedar' back in the late 1940s or 1950s(year escapes me). Believe it or not, once upon a time that place was considered classy!

So,will the last one to leave, please turn out the lights.
